Humble Genius

In my previous post I talked about What Rudy Guliani's father told him...'Funerals necessary, Marriages discretionary'.

The other day I was talking to my father in law, whom I respect tremendously. He had just come from a 'mourning' meeting after the demise of a close friend, who was senior to him in college. He also described how our beloved Prime Minister who was also in his Friend's class, especially came to mourn and spent about 30 minutes. Yes , Mr Manmohan Singh took out special time to come all the way to Chandigarh. He not only gave confidence to the bereaved family but must have inspired so many more with his humaneness and humility. Its people like our Prime Minister and President Kalam that inspire a us and keep hopes alive of millions of Indians despite corruption and moral degradation around use.

After the Narsimha Rao Government when Mr Singh was no longer the Finance Minister, he continued to live a very austere life. I have personally seen him alighting from a green Maruti 800 , for an important function.

The higher one goes the more open and humble a person should be. He should also be accessible. If leaders in high places are not easily accessible, know that either they are poor managers or have simply something to hide.

What I feel is, these r the virtues because of which one reaches to the top.People like JRD,Ratan Tata,Narayan Murthy could achieve so much because of their humility, receptivity to ideas and respect for others. The kind of warmth that they show is highly praiseworthy.

Hey Rajeev, This is really an eye opener for me. I have always seen and heard about the down-to-earth gestures of our President Mr. Kalam but I was really unaware of Mr Manmohan Singh. What I feel is, leadership is futile if you can't mingle with people you are leading..

Dear Sir, while I am on the verge of finishing my education and move on to the world of business, fulfilling dreams and looking for peace and happiness, your insights into life will surely be of great help. I would like to thank you for sharing your views and ideas through this medium. I would also like to thank you for the amount of learning that I have recieved while spending limited time during the various Alumni Committee activities. There are so many things to learn from you, like setting deadlines and deliverables to get the work done rather than just dream or make complete utilization of time for productive use or for that matter, be passionate about whatever you do in order to be a great leader. Along with my whole hearted desire to create an indelible mark in my work life, I sometimes wonder, what would give one true happiness and success. I am sure in a few more months as I finish the course at IMT Ghaziabad, many more questions in life shall get clearer as I would learn more and more everyday. Thank You once again.Suvankar

Rajeev, humility and a willingness to help others in whatever small way we can are perhaps the only things that can help each individual to make a difference. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
