Never Ever Give up !

I can write about the success of a Sunil Mittal or the inspiration from a Narayan Murthy but I write about this friend of mine. I have known him for almost 10 years now but we never got to talk about ourselves. Today, while coming back from Mumbai, we got the opportunity to sit together and we discussed. Some people had talked to me about his lack of finesse and earthy behavior. I of course only respect the positive attitude and don’t care about whether a person can speak fluent English or not. Today, however my respect for him went up many folds.

He told me about his life story. He was born in a very poor family. Even his elder brother was a driver. He was the first one to do 12th standard from his family, against all odds. His mother did not have Rs 7 to pay for his exam fee and had to mortgage something to the money lender to take this money. He passed. He was picked up by a good professor who asked him whether he would like to work at his home. He said yes as long as he could study further. He did his college from IGNOU. He joined YMCA as an office boy and got scolded and ill treated by his superiors. Did his part time MBA from FMS, joined a well respected ‘association’ and worked his way up the hierarchy. He has done well for himself. He inspired his younger brother to be an IAS.

After his career came on track he met a lady whom he had served water at YMCA, on the Aircraft. She was at that time studying for IAS and he for his Graduation. She could not get through and he through sheer hard work reached this position. She was amazed. He later invited some of his seniors who had ill treated him to his ‘professional’ functions, without holding any grudge against them.

I am not revealing his name because I do not know whether he would like me to reveal this but I will surely ask him at an appropriate time. I believe his is the inspirational stuff which masses need to know.

Through sheer hard work and perseverance he improved not only his life but that of his wife, his children, his brother and his family and may be so many more we aren’t even aware off. Yes many of us don’t get born in a poor family but all families are in a certain orbit at the time of every new generation. Its our duty to take them to the next higher orbit. If all of us believe in doing the best, we are capable of then in fact we would end up improving not only the lot of our families but that of our communities, our state and our country. We will truly make the world a better place, in our own unique ways.

Thank you my friend for letting me know your story.I myself am inspired.

Dear Rajeev,

"Never Ever Give up" is truly inspring. It inculcates a sense to be grounded while facing the toughest of the challenges in life.

It gives immense peace and mental stability as I read your blog on a Sunday morning.

Thanks

This is an amazing story.

I guess the strenth of true will can only be tested at the extremes; to see the wheat that passes through and the chaff that doesn't.
